In planning for our 40th, we sent out a survey via website in 2012 following our 35th reunion. 112 classmates participated. The results were 51.8% want background music only, so that classmates could visit and keep the cost down. 8.9% want live music and 39.3% want a DJ. For our 2012 Reunion, over 6 hours of music requests were collected on FB by classmates for our DJ so that everyone who wanted to have a say, could help to build the playlist.
Here was the feedback that the committee received by survey & at the reunion:
Music too loud, I'm here to visit / Crank it up ~ let's dance!/ Hate disco/ More rock/ More disco/ I'm sick of high school music. Can't we have something more current? / Awesome venue/ I'd pay more if we went to a better venue/ Loved the food/ Food doesn't matter/ Didn't like the food/ Want giveaways or contest prizes/ Don't want to waste time or money on prizes/ Ticket price was too expensive/ OK with ticket price/ Happy with alcohol choices/ Alcohol choices were lame. / I don't drink and don't want to pay for classmates' alcohol/ You email too much/ When, where, how much is our reunion again? Can't find the info.../ Website? What website? What password?/ I never even heard about the reunion.
Catch our drift? While we'd love to please everyone, that's pretty much impossible. Let's make this about reconnecting with old friends. Let's make this about making new friends with those we only knew from a distance. Let's make our reunion...about relationships. About us.
